Apple has sent out media invitations for a special event in San Francisco's Bill Graham Civic Auditorium on Wednesday, September 7. Apple is widely expected to unveil the next generation iPhone and Apple Watch models at the event.
The event would also offer the opportunity for Apple to repromote iOS 10, the update to its mobile operating system first unveiled in June. The free upgrade is expected to be rolled out to hundreds of millions of iPhones and iPads later in September.
Multiple rumors have claimed that the new iPhones won’t bring any design changes. However, that doesn’t mean that there will be no changes at all. To begin with, the new iPhones are expected to come with improved design where the ugly antenna lines at the back could be relocated along the top and bottom. Also, the home button on the new iPhones could be drastically different from the existing ones – while it won’t be clickable, it could boast Force Touch technology to offer haptic feedback, similar to the trackpad on the new MacBooks.
Under the hood, both iPhones could be powered by Apple’s A10 chipset paired with 2GB of RAM on iPhone 7, and 3GB of RAM on the iPhone 7 Plus. While the display size is expected to remain the same, Apple could upgrade the resolution — 4.7-inch for iPhone 7 with full HD display and 5.5-inch for iPhone 7 Plus with QHD display. The base storage is also likely to be upped from 16GB to 32GB, and the top end variant could come with up to 256GB storage
