She is born in a family that have been alreadyacting for generations in the bollywood industry, including her paternal great-grandfather, Prithviraj Kapoor; her grandfather, Raj Kapoor; her paternal uncles, Shammi, Shashi, Rishi, and Rajiv; as well as aunt, Neetu Singh, & Jennifer Kendall, the wives of Rishi and Shashi respectively. On her maternal side, her grandfather, Hari Shivdasani, and aunt, Sadhana, have been actors in their own family.
She made her acting debut in the 2000 war film Refugee with Amitabhbachchan's son Abhishek Bachchan, but the film was flopped but the acting of Kareen kapoor praised by critics, Kareena Kapoor established herself in Hindi cinema with roles in the historical drama Aśoka with shahrukh khan this was also a flopped, after that kareen got success in Mujhe kuchh kahna hai with Tusar kapoor and the blockbuster melodrama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham with multistar Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Hritik Roshan. This initial success was followed by a series of commercial failures and repetitive roles, which garnered her negative reviews. Inthe year 2004 marked a turning point for Kareena Kapoor when she played against type in the role of a sex worker in the drama Chameli. She subsequently earned wide critical recognition for her portrayal of a riot victim in the 2004 drama Dev with Fardeen Khan and a character based on William Shakespeare's heroine Desdemona in the 2006 crime film Omkara. Kareen Kapoor got her first Filmfare Awards for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for her performances in the 2007 romantic comedy Jab We Met with shahid kapoor and the 2010 drama We Are Family with Arjun rampal and Kajol, respectively. Kapoor achieved further success by featuring as the female lead in four of India's top-grossing productions—the 2009 comedy-drama 3 Idiots with Amir Khan, Sarman joshi and R. Madhwan,and romantic drama Bodyguard with Salman khan, Dabang2 the 2011 science fiction Ra.One with Shahrukh khan, and the 2015 social drama Bajrangi Bhaijaan with Salman khan, she received praise for her roles in the 2009 thriller Kurbaan with Saif ali khan and the 2012 drama Heroine with Arjun rampal.
